Garlic Scapes, Lettuce Mix, Fresh Overwintered Onions & More!

Garlic Scapes, Lettuce Mix, Spinach, Fresh Onions and More!

Hey Folks,

What a blessing it is to receive weekly rains through spring!  Our plantings are thriving as we continue planting, cultivating and more.  Walking out through the gardens during a cool morning of scattered rain felt amazing today.

What's happening on the farm?

Welcome Theano from Greece!

Theano has been here at the farm for over a week now and she has been very helpful and thoughtful!  Theano is visiting from Athens, where she finished a university study in plant breeding and was working at a health and fresh food grocery store prior to her arrival.  Theano also has family that lives in Florida that she visited before coming to the farm.  Theano is a lovely nature and landscape photographer and has already begun capturing some of the beauty of the farm during her stay.  The more beautiful photos in the email this week are from her lens!  To follow some of Theano’s work you can find her on instagram @theano.karamitsiou

Planting

Okra, tomatillos, dahlias and many great cut flowers are in the ground and more are waiting to be planted as we await another window!

We restored 1 line of herbs where perennials plantings failed here and there last year due to the dry conditions.  Some of the lovage and anise hyssop survived the sub-optimal conditions.  We transplanted echinacea, catnip, beebalm, and oregano to fill in the gaps!

Under the fig trees we also planted more perennials including 3 types of thyme, more rosemary, lavender and comfrey.

Lamb Season Continues

It’s been a delightful lambing season on our farm.  Remarkably, we haven’t had any orphaned lambs requiring bottle-feeding so far.  Earlier this week, one ewe misplaced her newborn lamb while it was napping in the grass.  She frantically sniffed around the other new mothers, searching for her own lamb, causing us some concern.  Fortunately, we assisted her in locating her offspring, much to her relief.  Katahdin sheep are exceptional mothers!  This year, we’ve already had four sets of triplets, and the ewes are admirably caring for them!

What's new in stock and whats to come?

Freshly harvested overwintered vegetables like onions, turnips, red round radishes, french breakfast radishes, baby swiss chard, scapes, and sugar snap peas are now available! We had a successful germination of arugula over the weekend, so you can expect to find fresh arugula in about a week!

New additions to our nursery include catnip, okra, dahlia tubers, zinnias, and tomatillos.

This week we have in stock:
