Hey folks,
We are a bit light on products going into next week but thankfully spring planting is going well and the ground finally has a bit of moisture to it after receiving rain earlier this week. We hope to see the beds pictured above begin to show first signs of germination after tomorrows expected rain. Onions and brassicas are transplanted out in the field, sugar snap peas and shallots are beginning to show themselves and tomorrow our potatoes are going in the ground! We are growing the favorites from last year and excluded a few varieties that did not grow as well or were not as popular.
Potato Planting
I put together a double row ridger to make planting a breeze, a big relief and time saver for the farm! After planting we can cover them up with the tractor as well.
A New Look for Our Microgreens
We are excited to announce that we have taken our green packaging a step further thanks to the great response from y’all! All our microgreens and shoots will now be sent our in recycled paper with PLA compostable film widow, all of which will compost. Only the tin-tie at the top should be removed before composting. I have had broccoli micros in a test bag for about 2 days now and so far it looks great keeping in the fridge. For now our microgreens are still listed at 8oz deli containers and I plan to just transfer them into the baggies this first week until we have photos to update the website and think about different size options too.
Going Further with Our Green Packaging
We also bought paper pints and quarts to switch over to once we have summer produce!
And we are trialing compostable plastic bags for roots/greens or things that may be wet. They will probably not keep as long in the fridge as the plastic bags that we have been supplying, but you could always transfer them to the thin plastic bags if you wanted to keep the greens longer. One of our customers shared with me that these bags keep greens just fine and also compost well in her compost pile at home.
