📣 Farm Update: A Short Pause in Market Production :

Store Closed

Bibb Forest Farm is taking a brief break from producing veggies for market and regular deliveries as we reassess our scale and costs. At this time, market expenses — especially labor relative to the cost of living — no longer align with what we’re able to sell our vegetables for, and we want to make sustainable decisions for the farm long term.

During this pause, we are still offering whole lambs, with the first available lambs ready in April. We also have one half cow available in early February, with additional half cows available mid–late summer.

If you’re interested in reserving any of these, please reach out directly to arrange details.

Bring on the Fruiting Veggies!

Hey Folks,

Things are heating up and that means bring on all the fruits of summer!  Our flower garden is sending forth the first blooms right along with the summer squash/zucchinis.  Depending on the chance of rain we may have our first bunches of outdoor carrots and beets on the later end of the shopping window.

What's Happening on the Farm?

Two 500 ft double rows of sweet potatoes are planted!  One row is split between the varieties Purple Splendor and White Bonita.  Then we have one big row of Orleans the same variety we have been growing over the years.

Chris Starts Working at BFF!

It’s been a lovely starting week for Chris at the farm.  He has been living here since the beginning of spring and we are feeling grateful to have had Chris step up to help when a vacancy opened up.  Chris’s highlight of the week was getting all the sweet potatoes planted!

“It was a tough couple shifts but a great feeling of accomplishment to get them all planted and I love sweet potatoes,” said Chris.

Next up on the Planting List

Our first planting of melons was a bit spotty so we have a nice succession planned for the coming weeks.  On the other hand we got a lot of nice looking cantaloupes in that are happily chugging along in the field.

We are scheming to plant an outdoor row of baby ginger to see how it fairs in Virginia silty loam with no high tunnel!

Our green beans are looking great as we direct seeded them into the certified compostable film this year which means more moisture and less weeds.  We have our favorite, dependable variety Provider for most to row and then mixed a purple, yellow and bicolor white/pink variety that all had similar maturation times as an experiment.
